Vanity Friday

Nails-that-match-the-bracelet
Continuing last friday's session of photobooth pictures in the name of vanity, I want to declare a tag towards 'vanity friday'. Truth is, some people like to label me as tomboy or in Dutch "stoer" but I am actually quite into grooming etc. Nevertheless, I always notice girls who do label themselves as tomboy to be impeccably made-up too and having perfect hair, so perhaps that's what it can imply as well: the groomed tomboy. Sort of Lipstick-lesbian label without actually being lesbian? Might be.

So it's nails today. I have a bit of a hand/nails complex because they are not my prettiest feature but I overcame that inferiority complex-part and thought they deserved a matching polish to my Balenciaga bracelet. The Balenciaga has been this years Valentine's gift (belated).

Ps: do you consider the 'tomboy'-label to be a form of trend? What about the 'real' tomboys: or, can you be a real tomboy when you spend at least 1 hour on hair/makeup/etc each day, or is wearing Isabel Marant and some wedged sneakers enough these days?

Ps 2: Happy International's Women's day for all women whether Tomboy, girly girl, unlabeled, groomed, Mothers, Fashiongirls, etc.

  6. I LOVED this post! I was actually a tomboy during elementary/middle school (only jeans/sneaker/no bra...mostly guy friends & sports) until I started high school. Even though I like to dress up now, I still feel like a tomboy at heart. And I couldn't agree with you more about hands - I too have a bit of a hand complex HAHA It's crazy how much I can relate to you here :) Anyways, fabulous color on you! You have lovely hands :) xo Jess

    1. Hi Jessica,
Thank you for a personal and honest response. I have always been a bit 'combination' as I call it: somewhere between my Barbies & My Little Ponies and rambling in the forest with wellies on. The thing with girl/boy is that boys seem to have freedom and fun when young, and girls have to stay proper in their cute little dresses. Somewhat being a tomboy stands for spontanity and fun and that's why it's getting high rates in fashion these days. However, I find the spontanity to be missing when the 'tomboy'look is being created and girls dare not to loose their prettiness (makeup/blowdried hair) which are exactly the things a real tomboy would not care a F about.
