Biarritz

Expectations can be both fun and limited. I decided I would not have too many going to Biarritz, as I often been to places hyped as 'surfers' paradise' or 'hippy heaven', only to find a whole bunch of wannabe's hanging out without having real surf or hippy connectation. Somewhat Baudrillard's idea of the simulacrum has gone massively large these days, and I see it both in tourism and, ofcourse, the way people profile themselves on the internet.

Shortly, there was little surf to be found in Biarritz but I enjoyed the haute and not-too-haute public and beach a lot. The cemetry you've already seen here, and the beachbums being haute in the air, but not so haute (or hot?) property to portray over here.

Beach-view

Biarritz has a popular beach, hence needs some beach-watchers to guard...and others take photos from the other side.

[forgive my lame sense of humour: it's friday, afterall!]

Don't be grave...

I got this weird fascination with graveyards in warmer climates: the use of happy colours and opulent religious symbolism on the graves are more frequent over there than at our protestant graveyards.

As with the celebration of the dead in Mexico, I believe in a ceremonial form of beauty, art and sometimes kitch to remember...

These were made in Biarritz during my roadtrip this year...
