St. Nicholas

These have been the shoes I couldn't get of my mind...

I think lots of fashiongirls know what I'm saying. We pinterest shoes and forget about some, and some are just too good to forget.

I basically fell in love with the mix of convenience and quirkiness. As seen in my last post, there are a variety of pointed flats going on this fall. These had the mix of matte leather in white: so sumptious! I've been struck with the white-bug and matte seems like a more luxurious idea than a glossy white. Then that heel! I couldn't get over that heel. Also, the promise of subtle leather: How unpractical are flats in stiff leather? Enough to keep on searching.

Also, this spring I had a good use of some older, cream-coloured Topshop brogues: I figured these would be perfect for mid-summer & autumn. Perhaps even winter, if I keep them crispy white enough.

Shoe-Siren or Bag-Babe?

* bagging = dating according to Urbandictionary definition 3

I am not sure if the binary had been drawn in Sex & the City or by other female oracles, but fashionable girls either seem to prefer one over the other...or, are you more into shoes or bags?

Funnily, I found out that it is not just girls among each other who make this distinction. To the hilarious feed I dispose at my twitter followers, and the ones who get to my hashtags (sounds a bit naughty, right, "getting to your #hashtags), they know I'm single these days. Dating or mingling among men can be totally #hilarious, or #frustrating when one is like "you're too smart for me" and I should have behaved like the ditsy Dutch blonde he was expecting me to be: #lame #excuse. You cannot put too on Facebook if they are still (should I defriend them or not?) Friends.

Anyway, one of the guys I was communicating with was so friendly to stereotype me as the girl who "loves shoes". I, a-fashionfan-who sometimes-tries-to look-cool-(aka Tomboy)-among-men, was slightly insulted because:
1. I LOVE bags
2. I like shoes

I hesitated defining the difference among this clueless specimen of the other sex, but I think the blog is a better forum for this, right girls?

Anyway, there are women (and some men) who are equally into both and having a bi-symmetrical interest in this, or they just love luxury so much and bring in some sunnies too. I personally prefer bags over shoes because most bags have the quality to:

1. always be comfortable (unless too tiny or too big)
2. don't cause bunions
3. travel mate to carry your belovings
4.  I love fondling with them when slightly insecure or nervous
5. no explanation, I just love them!

But, I'd like to know your preference: Bags, Shoes or Both?

Arethousa

Sometimes it's more than "just a shoe":

It's the story behind it...

Arethousa, the name given to the sandals, was a beautiful nymph around the Greek iles.

As most nymphs she was happy combing her hair and being beautiful:
Ofcourse, Greek myths are always compiled with drama, tragedy & metamorphoses:

Rivergod Alpheios, quite frisky and being into the mortal species, thought that Arethousa was a fine lady. Her affection wasn't returned so she fled away from him.

She went to the protector of women: Goddess Diana who turned her into a spring of water.

Ofcourse, the river-god Alpheios was as smart to do the same, and they mingle for times and times...
Ancient Greek Sandals have become quite popular these days and you can get them from various resources. I ordered them from their own site (here) as you have the most choice in finish and details:
Arethousa: platinum & black soles
I was slightly afraid I wouldn't cope with the toe-sandals, but they are actually quite comfortable.
As for these? They mingle quite well with my Zara sarong trousers ;)
Have a splendid weekend!

New Prints

love-affair with ethnic prints + a fascination with Espadrilles -> bye bye, no buy!

I didn't want to buy any more shoes but I reasoned that buying them from Zara would be cheaper than going to Madrid for the originals, although that's still something I would love to do this summer.

Spring Choos

I bought these Choos last autumn on sale...

I stared at them...

Caressed them...

Tried them on...

Walked on soft, fuffy carpet...

They met my cat....

And were approved by him...

And I decided they had to wait until spring 2013!

So, "where are you now" (Spring 2013...that is, the weather)

(ps: sorry to use too much of Rihanna's Rated R album: It's her best)

New In...

It's sometimes fun to live somewhere where most people wouldn't recognize their Zara from their Marants, or either know a shoe has been a clone-a-ton, or even know who Isabel Marant actually is.

That makes it easier to buy a shoe based on it's beauty than merely on it's status and the possible amount you spend on it. I simply found these clone-a-tons really beautiful with a heel that is perfect for me.

And they are Zara's (here), who would do (clone) them otherwise so fast (besides Topshop)?

New in:

Come on, take a guess: what is it???

Yeh, the detail fetishist would already recognized it!

Meet my new stellar and stellarly high Alice & Olivia Tie-dye wedges with snakeprint! So perfect for my Bohemian nature...

I got them before last weekend and I already showed the box in the 'lowmobbed friday' post. My intellectual endeavour of this weekend was learning to walk with them in the house: I've learned! My biggest style-influence has been the always colourful and feminine Annabelle from Vivaluxury who always has the best shoes in the cutest colours.

And now I will NOT wear them in Holland anymore. Reason: people in Holland label me as 'stoer' (tomboy) which I don't really feel like at all. I love wearing girly clothes and feel drawn to feminine items but yeh, people here are easy to put on labels just because they feel like it. I normally ignore the labels but I feel its a shame if I wear them and they are not appreciated for what they are and how they compliment my personality. But take them to the Meditereanean streets of....*keep guessing*...somewhere Meditereanean and somewhere cosmopolitan...could be anywhere from Marrakech to Cannes.

Who knows?

1950s Housewife ft. the Carven Top

Top: Carven, Skirt: Zara, Shoes: Topshop, Bracelet: belt by Primark; Cos & House of Harlow. Leather Cuff (alos in 1st pic: Marni), Sunglasses: Spitfire Weekend , Bag: vintage
Same as before
I wanted to take my new Carven top to the max by combining it with almost every SS12 trend there is, resulting to a slightly caricature image of the 1950s housewife.

I found it fitting to leave the curlers in for the idea of the housewife in her holiday cabin getting ready to socialize. To upp the 50s kitch factor I picked plastic Ikea cups in a bright colour for the Tupperware factor.

Sharp eyes will see I am missing one shoe, ;D, resulting into a weird cinderella-effect. Well, if my character 'the 50s housewife' has been on her cocktails, she must be slightly drunk, hence missing her shoe. In real life I have a pair: who needs a prince to bring back her shoes anyway?

Oh, I bought this skirt this winter and I was totally worried I wouldn't fit it anymore: I gained some weight because I had been on the verge of depression. Good thing the skirt still fits!

(PS: no real alcohol was used during this shoot: only a virgin mango/orange blend for vitamine C)

PS 2: I'm on a sale-announcing roll. If you like to try the Carven brand (or another fave of mine, Vanesso Bruno) you could head to mywardrobe.com as they have a secret-insiders sale going on right now of 40% all this season with MYSALEPREVIEW122  which makes this top below just €51.57 instead of the normal €130:
