Marant- the haul

Last thursday I went for the easy option by trying to order some Marant 4 H&M online.

* I gotten the shoes I was really after: they looked so deliciously studded in real life, but I returned them as they are slightly too tight around my upperfoot *

*The belt is so well-made and an original addition to my bohemian wardrobe = Score! *

*The monochrome knit felt like being a crossover of a sumo-wrestler and a pandabear. Omg, I do not like oversized sweaters as I work out to maintain a waist/hourglass figure: So why swamp it by ridiculously large sweaters? *

* I also got the scarf that I kind of like but I do not really love it. It is supposed to be silk but I miss the supersilky feeling: I'll keep it as I did not have any bohemian red scarves so far : ) *

Did you 'score' and how do you feel it lived up to your expectations?

Budget vs Blowout

I will stay into the Marant-ish spheres and added one of her original (not by H&M) in here. The other one is from Etsy designer Unearthed who has been making these wickedly gorgeous cuffs before Marant. I just love the ones I already have from them.

Monochromomania

Those boots (if you hadn't guessed already): Isabel Marant | Sunnies: House of Harlow 1960 | Cowprint Sweater: Monki| Dress: New Look | Batjeans: Topshop | Cape: Mango | Heels: Charlotte Olympia | Booties: Miu Miu |

Destination Sunny: The Backpacker

1. Sequinned Croptop |  2. Isabel Marant reversable!! bikini | 3. Earcuff | 4. Dragon sweatshirt | 5. African print trousers | 6. Anti-Diarrhea | 7. Stella for Adidas Sneakers | 8. Backpack (not the official but the romantic one) | 9.  packs of clean undies | 10. Free People Boots

Most of my 'Destination Sunny' set are about fantasies: the backpacker traveller probably sounds easier and more approachable than the Glam St. Tropez woman. However, I wouldn't last that long if I wouldn't have my daily clean clothes and underwear. Still, I would love to feel free enough to hitchhike with my essentials in a sack, travelling from one spot to another, without planning...

So, I gotten fantastical and not so practical by adding that sequinned croptop (1) and those amazing boots (10). However, not loosing reality and slightly facing my fear of having diarrhea in not-to-fancy hostels, quelle horreur!-> no 6!... And the undies? I love my fancy lingerie but practicality probably will have to guide me into those cheek-covering ones instead of the sensual thongs, and black is more forgiving when you really cannot change every day (again, quelle horreur!).

So, have you been backpacking and how's reality?

[Fashion hide]

Sorry for this fashion hiatus. You might not think this, but I'm quite a perfectionist about some things: I wanted that photoshopped perfection that some of the bloggers have and my photos just came out funny:

By lack of good photographers & photoshop, I'd just enhance my features with Loubous: it's that moment when a pointy nose looks haute enough (and saves me on red lipstick).

For the time being I totally wanted to adopt Baby Nightingale

And I'd gotten a bit more redhead that I had to pair up with a sultry stare:
dress: DvF
*Finally a pose that works: I've opted the slightly-tilted 'curious' eyes* instead of that slightly open mouth some people do, but that doesn't look so good on me in photos.

Preparing for the new king by this Jovoy Candle "Vive le Roy" (fr= long live the king)

I also found some cows on the beach:
Trousers: Topshop | Top: Isabel Marant etoile | Bikini: Pucci (No, I'm not topless!)
Who ran away from me: they must think my eyes looked too hungry and they'd become steak.

I really love these Topshop wide-legged trousers I wore in there as a hint to Oriental SS 13.

The Marant you have seen before over here.

and I had to handwash them:

that feels so unglamorous but when you like your fashion, you have to be gentle about them.

As for my personal style: I've been wearing eclectic (cow/beach outfit), feminine (DvF) to classic French style.

Or, mixing it up a bit!

Library Windows

Jacket: Etoile Isabel Marant (similar) ][ Lace dress: New Look ][ Tights: Calzedonia ][ Coffret: Primark (cute vintage here) ][ Bug Necklace: H&M ][ Booties: Belle by Sigerson Morrison (different colour) ][ Leo bracelet: vintage (other Zodiac cuff)

I'm into blues lately and literary between old and new. I picked up some "old-ladies'-staples" like the tweed jacket and houndstooth that are trending right now, and mixed them in a younger way with a lace dress and some cool-girl booties. That's basically me: still somewhere into that dodgy Britney Spear's song-feeling "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman".

I have been over the moon to get my pre-autumn lust-have Belle By Sigerson Morrison booties on sale. They are the crossover beautiful-vs-cool shoes, not having to bother with heels in cobblestones but still having some height; slightly cowboy-tomboy with the capped noses and still slightly feminine shaped for my mixed masculinity-feminity dressing.

New In...

It's sometimes fun to live somewhere where most people wouldn't recognize their Zara from their Marants, or either know a shoe has been a clone-a-ton, or even know who Isabel Marant actually is.

That makes it easier to buy a shoe based on it's beauty than merely on it's status and the possible amount you spend on it. I simply found these clone-a-tons really beautiful with a heel that is perfect for me.

And they are Zara's (here), who would do (clone) them otherwise so fast (besides Topshop)?

Lazio-ism and other (de-)shopping

My blog seems to be about travel and near-nude men lately, but no worries, I still like shopping.

One of my greatest surprises this week was seeing my coveted Isabel Marant's Lazio's in the largest departmentstore of or little country.

I was stunned how much I liked them. I saw them on Columbine's Smile and already thought of them as supergorgeous, but only fit for model-like calves and not the kind of legs I have.

However, with the not-so-boyfriend jeans I was wearing they looked even better than I imagined.

Gosh, how am I going to justify spending € 700 on a pair of boots?

Well, by selling my Givenchy Antigona (hopefully, but here's the link)

If you follow me you saw those ridiculously happy photos of me and the bag (here)
That was the fantasy

Reality was: I wanted to hurl the bag to some people ridiculing me making photos with the tripod, and I disliked the fact I bought a bag that is not-really-me that I wanted to throw it in the canal afterwards.
(that probably won't show on the photos...see, I'm a reasonable actress).

(I don't have angry-issues, btw, as long as the world is one sweet-soft-nice place. Ehm, yeh...my therapist says I'm in denial)

Anyway, I don't hate the bag anymore but I feel it's too cask-like and I feel too pretentious with this bag. It's just not love and I could make someone else happier with it.

Marant's Crochet, Clements Ribeiro and Monki

This sale-season I felt more like saving for the upcoming collections than to splurge on items that are almost last season. I did buy some that are more into the neutral (timeless) category:

* Clements Ribeiro Cashmere Sweater

Originally in the €400 pricerange and discounted to a €150.
Actually, this has been a RTS (return to Sender) but I liked the cosiness of the picture that I put it on first.

The designs of (married) Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro have been on my "wanna-have" style radar since seeing his Esher-esque prints in 2011 (see here). A quirky spin on the cashmere sweater in one of the more flattering tones for my complexion would be a good buy:

Unfortunately, the cashmere wasn't so soft. I have a COS sweater that is much softer.

Adding to that: the size is perfect but the lenght made it a croptop. Not something I am looking for in a classic and time-lasting cashmere sweater. Also, the jewellery detailing? Kinda plastic, don't you think?

  • Isabel Marant Étoile Crochet dress
Discounted from €200 (something) to €75.

I have been seeing quite some crotchet clothes on other blogs recently and realised it is a perfect piece of dressing during summer. Moreover, it can also work as a trans-seasonal piece to tone down the bright and tropical gear I adore to wear.

  • Monki Sequin collared sheer blouse

This is not a sale but people who know Monki know it's a similar price range as H&M or Forever 21. I love this one for it's delicate sequin collar. They opened a Monki store in Utrecht this year and I am not sure if it is in Amsterdam as well.

Have you splurged during the sales or do you wait for the newer collections?

Tie Dye Marant

Isabel Marant Tie-dye jeans...

Wearing them:

I thought the from top down picture would give some variety...

It reminds me of one of those quartet cardgames that is quite Dutch. Kwartetten (translated by me:) is a cardgame where one tries to sample groups of 4 cards (quartets) with similar themes, eg food, fashion etc. I haven't played it for a while but I think you can swap with the other player, asking: "Do you have MlleWanderlust Marant 1?". But anyway I don't do enough fashion photography to bring about a large file.

About the jeans: I actually was in love with them and waited for 4 days before purchase. I made some pictures with them & realised they were not flattering on me. I sound like a broken record but I returned them to Zolamanola again.

Mr. Isabelle Marant

I wonder what it would be like to be know as "the husband of"...

Every fashionista and not-so-fashionista has heard of Isabel Marant but the designer skills of her equally talented husband are the lesser known.

Jerome Dreyfuss is probably most known for his bag designs. French fashionistas know his brand a bit more than the rest of the European crowd, although some rich-&-famous have been spotted with his bags as well.

I'm a bag-junkie: I adore bags in many shapes...I sometimes prefer the tinier ones, because I can downsize my junk-on-the-road.

So my curiosity for a bag from 'the husband of' was finally cured when theoutnet had a 20% discount on the already marked down Twee Mini.

Corally goodness in perforated leather: it's the kind of bag I like and so incredibly detailed with lockers, studs and zippers all over.

Don't let the large picture above fool you: this is a sweet Mini that is almost the size of a cosmetic pouch. However, it's what I said before, I really like this size for travel purposes and easy style.

Oh, and did I mention they look like an awefully cute (French) couple? No? see for it yourself...

So how to wear my Dreyfuss, with one of my Marant's, ofcourse! (but he can cheat with other clothes as well, if all my Marants are in the laundry...)

Isabel Marant FF 2012

the highly acclaimed designer herself on the right

The Isabel Marant collection is the one I really looked out for of the Paris Fashion Week session. Marant's aesthetic is the kind that feels easiest and most natural to me: I know some women who have to fake the slouchy 'je ne sais quoi' look (by intentionally messing up their hair or clothes, some really immaculate women who try to be messy, it looks so cute but somewhat unnatural to them) but for me being slightly messy is something natural to me.  Marant's cool Parisian left-bank chic is almost like something I would have designed myself, if I could...

These 12 looks are my favourite of the 40...I notice that my only leather pants and my 5 leather skirts can still stay in my closet, good thing. Also, the combination of old pinkish hue and a brick red will be seen a lot...I will try this one soon with my burgundy Equipment blouse and old rose jeans soon (you can never be too trendsetting).

I also prefer the shoe section over the ones issued for SS 12: I like the ubertrendy wedged sneaker but not on me...I like a pump a lot better and the cowboy boot aesthetics feels like I have to save my cash for the real thing when the boots and shoes will be for sale. And I really fancy the black coat with the blue stitched patterns too.

The real and the clone Marant

Some time ago I moved up to Étoile Isabel Marant to a real Marant in the form of Kelan...my nifty black, high-waisted jeans.

I moved back into cloning/emulating from budget brand New Look, but not with making it more Marant.

I have a picture of the shorter-sleeved original:

It is not the long-sleeved Yoan but the short sleeved one. This was actually the only picture online that someone was wearing it in real life (here scroll down) so I concluded that not many fashion-bloggers have scored the real deal yet.

I found this gorgeous Yoan inspired sweater at New Look which was lacking the fringes. So I bought some yarn, how granny-esque, and went putting and knotting them between.

This is mid-process:

New Look sort-of, improving with fringes
I couldn't find the yellow one, but I just went in haberdashery discount stores that have some yarn around, only in the most primary colours. They both were 1 euro each...

 Result: (for the moment)

New Look sweater, quite Marantified

Not as long and fringy as Yoan, but I said I wanted an inspired sweater and not a clone. I hope to stumble across some pale yellow as the Marant Yoan has, but I will not search the whole country for it. Back to the title: I'm wearing my genuine Isabel Marant Kelan high waisted jeans over here with my inspired Marant Yoan sweater:
Mlle Wanderlust in real and inspired Marant
Always good to combine and DIY when you don't want to blame your budget on designer anyway

designer crush: Isabel Marant #fashion

Brands are like a haircut: you can see lots of people fancying a brand and you want to try it on as well, only to see that it doesn't fit you.

My vote goes for Acne: I like or love it on other people because of their clean-cut directional image, but somehow it doesn't click with me. Somewhat strange, because I adore lots of clothes from COS and they have a similar aesthetic to Acne's

And sometimes the opposite, you really feel connected to a designer or brand. You either find your designer or it somewhat finds you.

the designer Herself: Isabel Marant

With Isabel Marant it started slow and cheap: I bought my first from her cheaper sibling of the Étoile line, and even from a previous collection from the Outnet. It is a brightly shouldered, almost fuchia jacket that is not too trend-fixed.

My second Isabel Marant was still from their ligne Étoile, only from the recent AW 2011 collection. Still relatively cheap, a sportish sweater that retails under €200.

Now it was time to venture on my real Marant from their grown-up line. Their boots, sweaters, jeans were luring me to buy them, even though I had to think of at least chilling out a €300 for them.

Until I saw her: Kelan!

Kelan is the jeans the girl on with the padded gilet, jeans blouse and fringed boots is wearing.

I was in dire need of a black jeans, after I realised my Primark version of €11 didn't fit the bill on the fashion front. Basically, Primark can make brilliant stuff that looks 10 times more expensive than they actually are, but this jeans wasn't a part of that selection: it looked like 11 euro jeans!

The fact that Kelan was high waisted instead of the contemporary bum slicing jeans these days that make curvy bums look like they have a dream of becoming construction worker one day, made my heart beat a bit faster.

Bliss, jeans that cradle the waist when winter arrives-> more warmth!

Remembering that net-a-porter gave me a discount of 50€ on every little purchase I wanted to make, made it more attractive. Soo, €185 minus €50 would be €135, which would be a reasonable price for a staple I am bound to like for some years to come.

My only doubt was that Isabel is a french designer and the largest size was 3 (?) that was described as L.

My fashion friends know that one L doesn't compare with another L. How L(arge) would it be? Would it be a French idea of Large (which is still tiny for a stout Dutch specimen such as I am) or an American image of large (which would be too large for a stout, but normal weight specimen such like I am).

To my amazement, 3 fits me perfectly on my first fitting. Actually, I can see myself going for a 2 when I really want to have a tighter effect, because it is a roomy kind of fit and not the skinny jeans that net-a-porter described her for.

Here is the label first...real pictures later...

My very first grown up Isabel Marant from the AW 2011 collection!

Incredibly black, sturdy like the catwalk picture suggest (the kind of cowgirl jeans) and actually not even too high-waisted, just confortably on the waist and not even a corset-like reach to the boobs.
